In our brand new monthly column Healing Energies, Hong Kong-based energy practitioner and Reiki teacher Corie Chu explains why energy healing is for everyone and how it can help you redefine your relationship with yourself and others.
We eat to fuel our energy. We sleep to restore our energy levels. We move to shift our energy in and out of our bodies. At a cellular level, energy, also called life force by some, is the currency of all life. So why wouldn’t we want to heal the very source that gives us the ability to live, eat, breathe, perform and engage in any activity or with anyone?
Most of us are walking around totally burnt out from an energy point of view. We have no idea how to set energy limits. We say “yes” to everyone and everything until we feel absolutely spent, and by then, we need double or triple the time to restore ourselves and our energy reserves, but guess what? You’ll never truly be able to heal and restore your energy levels until you learn to say “no”. Maybe you’ve been told to go get a massage, to take some “me time” or to go to a yoga class, but all of these are temporary solutions to that only work to replenish energy levels on a short-term basis. Enter energy healing.
If you want to create positive long-term effects, you need to look into the energy supply within you, and address the root of what is taking energy from you or what is creating uncomfortable feelings within you (such as stress, anger, sadness), and what truly charges you (makes you laugh, sparks joy and makes you feel whole and alive).
Just like changing your eating habits from a diet of junk food towards broccoli and tofu, it’s a long process. Go for baby steps, and really make a commitment to yourself. As with other self improvement journeys, a true desire for change is key. But if you’re making efforts to heal your mind and your body with exercise and healthy eating, isn’t it time to address your entire self truly holistically by also taking care of your energetic body?
Once you get the ball rolling with energy healing, you’ll start witnessing and acknowledging how your relationship with yourself and with others changes for the better. You might notice that you feel lighter, freer, more empowered to speak your truth, more worthy of yourself and more able to stand up for yourself. You will tap into more love for yourself, which in turn will enable you to finally learn to say “no” to commitments that you don’t value and instead, spend that time and energy doing something you enjoy.
Energy healing creates deep changes on four levels; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Because it works invisibly to the naked eye, it’s often a harder concept to digest until you’ve actually experienced it a few times. Luckily, energy healing modalities such as Reiki are much more accessible nowadays, and we live in a city with a rich Traditional Chinese healing culture that really embraces energy healing methods such as Tai Chi or Chi Gong.
Energy healing can massively support your journey within. You’ll know when you have personally embodied these long-lasting effects when the changes you make become second nature to you, at which point you’ll be able to live more consciously and holistically for as long as you wish to.
Everyone has baggage, but at what point do we all need to slow down to unpack some of it? Ask yourself, would it really be healthy to continue adding more negative energy load on? Do you really want to get to the point where you are massively overloaded and broken? If not, give yourself a chance to explore energy healing and see how it resonates with you.
Energy healing is best done one-one-one in private sessions, just like therapy or personal training sessions, so that it’s tailored to you. If you find the right practitioner, you’ll get a lot out of it. It’s definitely an upfront investment, but it’s so worth it for long-term change. There are also some group energy healing classes but note that they are more generic because it’s typically harder for a practitioner to facilitate tailored healing to each person in a short amount of time.
