New Day New Chef, a vegan cooking show based in the U.S. has just been made available to watch in England, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand on streaming platform Amazon Prime. It follows its initial success on both Amazon Prime and public television stations across the U.S. earlier this year as plant-based home cooking becomes increasingly popular with consumers.
The show is hosted by Jane Velez-Mitchell, a New York Times bestselling author, former CNN television broadcaster and founder of nonprofit animal welfare news network Jane Unchained, and produced by Emmy Award winning producer Eammon McCrystal. Following on from its success with domestic audiences, New Day New Chef has “gone global” via Amazon Prime for plant-curious folk in England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
“We are so excited that, now, most of the English-speaking world can watch top vegan chefs in action and learn how to make amazingly delicious dishes packed with nutrients that lead to optimal health and fitness,” said Velez-Mitchell.
During the first season of the show, Velez-Mitchell showed viewers a number of easy 100% plant-based recipes, including egg-free deviled eggs, “muscle” scramble, a vegan tower burger and chocolate hazelnut mylk. Each of the episodes also featured a different celebrity co-host and taste testers, including some of the highest-profile plant-based figures such as NBA legend John Salley, Olympic medalist Dotsie Bausch, Downton Abbey star Lesley Nicol and actress Emilie de Ravin.

In May, a special edition of the series, New Day New Chef Support and Feed, featured actress and singer Maddie Baird, mother of famous singer-songwriters Billie Eilish and Finneas. Over the course of the season, the celebrity vegan family delivered healthy nutritious plant-based meals to those struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic and supported local vegan restaurants in Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia.
The crew is now filming and readying for another 8-episode season to debut this October, which will feature a slate of well-known chefs, including famed vegan restaurateur Matthew Kenney and wellness expert chef Leslie Durso.
While the show isn’t currently available to watch in Asia, there are definitely plans underway. New Day New Chef is now being translated into German and Japanese, and will debut in both markets in the coming months along with a new third season, according to the producers.
There’s no surprise that vegan cooking shows are doing particularly well right now, given that the coronavirus pandemic has meant that people are spending far more time indoors (with many of those hours spent on streaming platforms like Amazon Prime), and are also much more concerned about their health.
With the crisis exposing the vulnerabilities in the meat supply chain, from virus outbreaks at slaughterhouses to supermarket shortages, as well as new scientific evidence to support the long-term health advantages of a plant-based diet, interest in plant-based eating and home cooking is no doubt at an all-time high.
