Miyoko’s Creamery Launches the World’s First Vegan Butter Cooking Channel

Vegan dairy pioneer Miyoko’s Creamery has announced it is launching a YouTube cooking channel designed to showcase the versatility of its flagship dairy-free butter product. The channel will feature a variety of shows with hosts ranging from plant-based chef Eddie Garza to Veggie Grill VP of F&B Kasja Alger.
Miyoko’s Creamery, which recently raised a US$52 million Series C, is set to leverage the power of YouTube by launching The world’s first Vegan Butter Channel. A focussed streaming outlet that will feature lauded chefs and industry experts, the channel’s viewers will be able to gain a better technical understanding of the cooking uses of animal-free butter.
The company says its vegan butter “melts, browns, bubbles, bakes and spreads” just like its animal dairy counterpart. The channel will share tips and techniques for both home and professional chefs interested in the science of vegan baking.
Instructional videos and recipes
Leading up to Christmas, recipes will have a holiday theme with how-to videos for dishes such as Vegan Butter Enriched Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls with Spiced Vegan Butter Cream Cheese Icing. Post-December, instructional videos will tackle broader flavour profiles that look closely at the properties of the Miyoko’s butter.
“With The Vegan Butter Channel, people don’t have to take my word for it—they can see vegan butter perform for themselves, and hopefully are inspired to cook some of these recipes—or variations—at home,” Founder and CEO Miyoko Schinner said in a statement.
The channel’s focus revolves around Miyoko’s European Style Cultured Vegan Butter, which the company describes as combining “age-old butter-making techniques with plant-based ingredients.”
“I created our vegan butter because as a chef and cookbook author, butter is the foundation of so much of my cooking and baking, so it was important that any vegan butter I use tastes and performs up to the highest standards,” Schinner said.
One channel, multiple series
The channel is set to air three separate and self-contained series: Making It Butter & Vegan; The Vegan Butter Academy, and Phenomenally Vegan. It will cover the full spectrum of understanding ingredients, using recognised kitchen techniques and general conversation around the topic of animal-free butter. The programming will be accompanied by recipes that can be followed by professionals and home cooks alike.
Butter by any other name
The launching of the channel comes shortly after a landmark legal victory that saw Miyoko’s Creamery victorious over the dairy industry, winning the right to continue to use the word “butter” in connection to its award-winning European Style Cultured Vegan Butter. The ruling set a new precedent for labeling within the plant-based sector.
The company, which was founded by activist chef Schinner, makes more than 25 vegan cheeses and kinds of butter from plant milk and nuts, with products sold at more than 20,000 retailers across the United States.
