This month, alternative protein event organiser KindEarth.Tech (KET) will be hosting the Kind Technology for Future Food, an international virtual event to discuss the future of food and the latest in the plant-based, cell-based and fermentation protein sectors. Taking place on November 20, the schedule includes exciting talks from food tech founders and experts across the world, pitches from startups and debates to stimulate creative novel ideas to accelerate the transformation towards a sustainable food system.
Over the course of Kind Technology for Future Food, which unlike your average virtual conference is “designed to mimic the way our brains come up with innovative ideas,” expert speakers and food tech innovators will be joining from Europe, America, and Asia, including KET co-founders Olivia Fox Cabane, famed for her landscapes mapping out the pioneering companies in the food tech space that LinkedIn pundits can’t get enough of, and Ira Van Eelen, a cultured meat expert and daughter of Willem van Eelen, founder of the Invitromeat Foundation and Eat Just advisory board member.
Major Alt Protein Players To Speak At Event
The figures who are scheduled scheduled to speak on November 20 hail from the fast-growing plant-based, cell-based and fermentation protein sectors that make up the alternative protein industry, including London-based vegan restaurateur and entrepreneur Loui Blake; co-founder of vegan platform Beyond Animal Claire Smith; and Brett Thompson, the project coordination consultant for Africa’s first cell-based meat startup Mzansi Meat Co.
Vegan campaigner Armanda Govers; Liz Specht, the associate director of science at the Good Food Institute (GFI); co-founder and CEO of Singapore’s cultivated shrimp startup Shiok Meats Sandhya Sriram will also be featured as speakers at the event, as well as Green Queen Media founder and editor-in-chief Sonalie Figueiras.
Guests attending the Kind Technology for Future Food can expect to virtually meet the cohort of food tech experts, watch exciting pitches from startups, take part in Q&A sessions and debates. The event is described by the organisers as for everybody from skeptics of the food tech revolution to food lovers, industry representatives, government officials and academics.
Unveiling Of Groundbreaking Cell-Based Meat Research
One particular highlight of the event will be the first release of new groundbreaking research led by Dr. Cor Van Der Weele, professor of humanistic philosophy at Wageningen University, which brought together animal agriculture stakeholders, from slaughterhouse owners and meat producers to regulatory officials and vets in focus groups to discuss possible ways for farmers to enter the cultivated meat industry.
“This has been the first research of its kind, together with stakeholders on this topic. It was an unforgettable experience – and we as KET will be the first to present this to the world…This is just one of the topics at the event, that will stretch from Asia, E.U. to the U.S. without forgetting Africa,” said Van Eelen.
