Green Queen Loves: THANN Sanctuary – Thai Spa Heaven

3 Mins Read

As soon as you enter THANN Sanctuary, you feel relaxed. They do two things a little differently than other spas in Hong Kong. Sound & Lighting. Sound wise- There is a running water sound, like a forest stream, and everything else is quiet. On the lighting front- everything is muted and glowy. From the moment you walk into the lobby and all throughout the treatment rooms, there are no screens, no LEDS, no fluorescents- the total opposite of the craziness of the city. They use soothing shades of greys and browns and the therapists seems to walk around as if on clouds. The walls and floors are made out of slate stone and furniture is wooden. Post modern chic this ain’t- THANN Sanctuary is all about calming & tranquilizing. Sound like heaven? That’s what they are aiming for. But don’t take our word for it- THANN Sanctuary was voted one of the Top 55 spas in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

THANN carefully selects experienced therapists that are trained in aromatherapy, anatomy studies and massage techniques. Both therapists we had the pleasure of being treated by were Thai. Anyone who has ever been massaged by a Thai masseuse can attest to the fact that they must have special training schools that defy explanation. Their hands are magic! Both were very experienced and very discreet. No chattering at all during the massage- this was all about our ultimate relaxation. Both of us feel into deep sleep during our treatments and one of us was having a facial! Treatments rooms have their own private bathrooms and shower rooms so you truly are in your own private corner of bliss. They create their own essential oil blends- you choose one for your treatment. We picked Stimulating, a blend of peppermint, thyme, eucalyptus and rosemary, and Clarifying, a distinctly Thai mix of lemongrass and kaffir lime. The oils were rich and full of clarity- no synthetics to be seen. After our treatments, and a leisurely shower, we were greeted in the lobby area with freshly cut cantaloupe and warm ginger tea. We had a slow browse through the shelves of THANN products- they have a full line body products, face care, hair care & fragrances. Their collections are poetic and their packaging charming. Their products make great gifts. We especially love the Aromatic Wood and the Rice Collection
