March 3 2021 Update: This article has been updated to reflect the additional features and new changes available on the revamped FoodForage app.

Technology software company Bionix Technologies recently launched its new mobile app FoodForage, created to help an increasing number of vegans and individuals looking to buy plant-based alternative products and share their findings with the community.

Bionix Technologies recently unveiled its new app in the U.K, FoodForage that aims to help the vegan and vegetarian community find plant-based alternatives near them and share their findings with others in the community.

Apart from developing FoodForage, Bionix Technologies works on other in-house projects as well as with other businesses through tech partnerships to deliver software.

Vegan culture is on the rise around the world with recent figures revealing that vegan diet followers in South Korea have tripled while in Europe, more than 3% of the total population consume plant-based meals.

We created FoodForage for individuals who are becoming more conscious of what they eat, and are looking for new vegan & plant based alternatives to reduce their carbon footprint, improve their health and make ethically minded purchases. However, it is not always easy finding these products or knowing what is out there to buy, especially with over 1 in 4 newly released products being labeled vegan

To meet this increasing need, FoodForage hopes to make environmentally and ethically conscious food purchases as easy as possible. At the moment, based on the users’ location, individuals can browse around 1000+ products that are available in local stores including items like dairy-free ice-cream to vegan bacon, which is constantly updated with what’s in stock and what’s not.

Users can also search and filter for certain categories, such as gluten-free, and brands, and if no items have been added to a store, the use of AI will help predict what items have higher chances to be around you. There’s even a maps page on the app, so users can view stores nearby and see what products they have in stock.

To share the products they have found with the community, users can either search for their product or scan the barcode of the product and add as much detail as they can about the product like its price, weight, and store location. Once the information is provided, users need to click submit and everyone in the community will now be able to view this new finding.

Co-Founder Reuben McQueen and Ibrahim Mizi say they launched FoodForage for individuals who are becoming more conscious of what they eat. “We have created the app for those who are looking for new vegan & plant-based alternatives to reduce their carbon footprint, improve their health and make ethically-minded purchases. However, it is not always easy finding these products or knowing what is out there to buy, especially with over 1 in 4 newly released products being labeled vegan!”

Available to download on iOS and Android for UK users, the launch of the app coincides with the Veganuary campaign that has welcomed over 500,000 new people signed up to try an animal-free diet for the month of January. The app aims to help this community in their pledge and make purchases simpler and hassle-free.

Going forward, FoodForage is looking to expand to other countries with new features.

Last year, Arizona resident Michon Javelosa co-founded the app vKind, an online directory and a mobile app that also helps make plant-based purchases easier for vegan consumers and is focussed on accelerating the growth of the vegan industry by bringing together plant-based brands, and vegan professionals on a single platform.

Other apps in this domain include the vegan & vegetarians dining search-engine-like app HappyCow enabling users to locate plant-based foods and groceries near them, and The Vegan Passport app, which provides an extensive guide to living a plant-based lifestyle and a billion, the Singapore based Instagram-meets-plant-based living review resource.
