Flave: Sydney Vegan Meal Subscription On A Mission To Bring Plant-Based Food To All Australians

3 Mins Read

Launched this year, Sydney-based startup Flave is on a mission to bring plant-based eating to all Australians with its 100% vegan meal subscription plans, designed and crafted by local chefs and delivered to doorsteps. Currently operating across selected metro areas in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, Flave has set its sights on expanding its service nationwide to offer all Australians delicious, nourishing and good-for-the-planet meals.

Founded in Bondi by Stuart Cook, former CEO of fast casual restaurant chain Zambrero, and his partner Samantha Cook, Flave is the newest plant-based meal delivery service to land in Sydney this year. It offers subscribers vegan dishes inspired from cuisines all over the world that can satisfy taste buds while reducing the footprint of our plates. All their ready-made meals, from breakfast to lunch and dinner, are conveniently designed to be easily heated up at any time.

We aim to show millennials, Gen X, Y, Z and even the Boomers how eating well – not just for your body but for the planet – can taste 10 times better than the standard diet.

Their mission? To show all generations, from grandparents to youths, that nutritious plant-based meals don’t have to be boring or bland, but can in fact be better than its meat-filled counterparts. Among some of the dishes on Flave’s extensive menu – crafted by executive chef Scott Findlay who was trained by Gordon Ramsay and former private chef for Sir Paul McCartney and plenty of other celebs – include spicy Indonesian-style nasi goreng, Thai yellow curry, moussaka, lasagna, Jamaican no-chicken jerk and Greek breakfast bowls.

“We aim to show millennials, Gen X, Y, Z and even the Boomers how eating well – not just for your body but for the planet – can taste 10 times better than the standard diet and make you feel a million times better,” explains Flave.

“We’ve had plenty of feedback from tasters of Flave saying they didn’t know plant-based food could taste this good and that our meals taste better than the original version.”

Their subscription service starts at AU$89.95 (US$65.56) for seven meals per week, with more options available including 10-meal, 15-meal and 18-meal boxes, which are especially handy for families or those looking for a nutritious plant-based meal plan and don’t exactly know where to start. Customers can personalise their meals, mixing and matching between dishes they love before checking out for delivery to their doors.

Flave began with a passion to show Sydneysiders, and soon to be the whole of Australia, just how delicious, nourishing, and flavourful plant-based foods can be.

While the company is only currently operational across selected metro areas in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, Flave has set its sights on expanding its service to more cities, and ultimately offer delivery nationwide

“Flave began with a passion to show Sydneysiders, and soon to be the whole of Australia, just how delicious, nourishing, and flavourful plant-based foods can be,” said the company in a post.

In the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the rising vegan trend as consumers wake up to the dangers, health and sustainability concerns relating to the animal meat industry, convenient plant-based delivery and food solutions have emerged all over the world to meet the demand.

In the U.K., a Manchester-based online food ordering platform Get Vegan Grub is gearing up to extend its services to London early next year to serve as the “cruelty-free alternative to Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats”, while legacy plant-based meat substitute brand Quorn has begun to introduce meatless dim sum deliveries in Singapore, in partnership with local e-commerce startups.

Meanwhile, Swedish startup VEAT has just launched its vegan vending machines across Stockholm as traditional restaurant services continue to be upended by the pandemic, offering the city’s residents a safer grab-and-go alternative to get their nutritious and sustainable plant-based bites.
