The Raging Pig’s Vegan Bacon Gets a National Rollout In Germany

The German food tech startup, The Raging Pig Company, has partnered with Vincent Vegan, Germany’s largest plant-based burger chain, on a nationwide launch of Raging Pig’s plant-based bacon.

The Hamburg-based Raging Pig Company, which launched in 2021, says it uses a proprietary production process, which solves the challenge of making plant-based bacon that stays crispy. Its Raging Bacon utilizes side streams from the food industry to offer a product that stands out for its intense bacon flavor, visual appeal, and versatility in usage.

The company says it’s on a mission to replace 1.5 billion pigs from the global food system. Raging Pig also produces a German sausage alternative.

‘Searching for a long time’

After two years of development, the vegan bacon product has received positive feedback from local restaurant partners in Hamburg. Now, with the Vincent Vegan partnership, the companies say they’re meeting the growing demand for plant-based alternatives to animal products and offering an authentic alternative to traditional bacon.

“We’ve been searching for a long time for a plant-based bacon alternative that is worthy of the name, while also tasting bold and allowing for a special crispiness,” Vincent Vegan’s co-founder, Topi Rohde, said in a statement.

Dr. Arne Ewerbeck, co-founder of The Raging Pig Company, expressed similar enthusiasm, stating, “Our innovative technology will enable us to offer more plant-based alternative products in the future and thus make an important contribution to a climate- and animal-friendly food system.”

More than 100,000 slices of Raging Bacon have already been sold through initial partners, providing crucial feedback from both a product and logistic standpoint. The companies now aim to meet the high demand for their product across Europe in 2023, with a focus on burger restaurants and chains.

The companies plan to offer the product through various food service partners during Q2 2023, and Raging Pig hopes to offer more plant-based alternative products in the future.

Plant-based bacon in Europe

The Raging Pig emerges as plant-based bacon has seen notable success across Europe in large part as a result of France’s La Vie. The Natalie Portman-backed plant-based bacon brand has earned menu slots at Burger King locations across France.

Burger King’s Leicester Square location in London also used the bacon when it turned the location vegan for a month.
