Qatar Airways, the flag carrier airline of Qatar, has just launched its first-ever entirely vegan range of gourmet dishes on its flights as demand for plant-based options grows. The new range will be offered to premium customers on selected flights, while other passengers on all flights can still pre-order special vegan meals ahead of their travel plans.
Launched on Tuesday (October 13), the new range of fully vegan dishes on Qatar Airways’ à la carte menu, available for business class passengers, will be served on flights taking off from Doha’s Hamad International Airport and selected flights into Doha.
Made with fresh ingredients, some of the new gourmet dishes include a Smoked Moutabel & Spiral Courgettes with Arrabbiata Sauce, Tofu & Spinach Tortellini; Asian Barbecue Tofu with Noodles, Scallions & Shiitake; Fried Tofu with Vegetable Tagine; Cauliflower Couscous & Kalamata Bruschetta; and Chickpea Flour Omelette.
“We are delighted to incorporate a vegan main course choice to our on-board menu, offering our passengers yet another lifestyle choice that redefines the expectations from a five-star airline,” said Akbar Al Baker, the group CEO of Qatar Airways.
While the vegan range has yet to launch across all flights and is not open to all passengers, Qatar Airways says it will continue to offer a wide selection of special vegan meals on all routes for every passenger, which can be pre-ordered up to 24 hours before the flight, an offering that most airlines currently provide.

It’s the latest in a slew of measures introduced by aviation companies to cater to the growing demand for vegan options. In May this year, Japan’s national flag carrier line Japan Airlines began serving vegan burgers made with Beyond Meat’s plant-based patties on select routes between the U.S. and Tokyo, available for first class passengers.
Last September, Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific became the first airline to serve plant-based pork mince analogue OmniPork by Green Monday, which was available for business class passengers on long-haul flights departing from Hong Kong.
It followed Air New Zealand’s launch of Impossible Food meat on its Business Premier menu back in 2018. Earlier this year in January, Emirates added a vegan choice to its main meal options as a part of the Veganuary campaign.
