Hong Kong’s plant-based food scene just keeps growing. The city is now full of meatless restaurants, and loads of food outlets are now adding on vegetarian and vegan options to their menus. But what about completely vegan restaurants? Turns out, we have a fair few of them too, where vegan and only vegan dishes are served – meaning that 100% plant-based folk can indulge carefree!
Editor’s Note: Believe or not, some popular vegan guides to Hong Kong have misleading information, classifying restaurants as vegan when they serve honey or dairy or milk, and some restaurants that have the word vegan in their name are actually not. The only way to be sure is to call every single one and speak to the owner or manager, which we did, to make sure there were no surprises.
The Park by Years
Beloved vegetarian café YEARS recently opened up its second branch in Sham Shui Po, which is 100% vegan. Called The Park by Years, the café will serve up some of the best vegan food the city has to offer, from curries and pastas to no-egg, no-dairy desserts such as raw lemon cheesecake and poached pear pancakes.

Vego Coffee
Vego Coffee is the revival of the formerly in Wan Chai Hkveganshop, which closed its doors last month. It’s 100% plant-based menu ranges from pizzas to waffles and its highly acclaimed cake selection, made fresh, in-house and of course all vegan-friendly.

Ohms Café & Bar
Ohms Café & Bar is a favourite in the Sheung Wan neighbourhood. The quaint restaurant serves delicious made-to-order pastas made with protein-packed black bean or green pea noodles, all-day breakfasts, beautiful vegan cakes, as well as a selection of zero-waste and organic skincare and household products.

VW Vegan Café
Opened just last month, VW Vegan Café is the newest 100% plant-based coffee shop to arrive in Tai Po. Located on a quiet street corner, the café’s delicious vegan lemon donuts, blueberry cheesecake tarts and mochi brownies are not to be missed!

POP Vegan
Located in Hong Kong’s Soho district, POP Vegan offers a wide range of Western vegan dishes, with impressive entrees such as cauliflower steak, eggplant parmigiana and hedgehog mushroom pie. In addition to being completely meat, egg and dairy free, the restaurant is also free from alliums, making it a suitable choice for Buddhists too.

Mirror & Vegan Concept
Mirror & Vegan Concept is well known for its moreish vegan pastas and risottos, with sauces so creamy you’ll find it hard to believe they are completely dairy and egg free. Paired with their fresh salads and vibrant soup of the day, you won’t be disappointed.

LN Fortunate Coffee
LN Fortunate Coffee is a vegan restaurant franchise that originally started in the northern Taiwanese city of Hsinchu. Its Hong Kong outlet in Sai Ying Pun is frequented by omnivores and herbivores alike for its veganised renditions of local favourites, such as cha siu fan and bubble waffles.

VeggieSF
VeggieSF is an American 1950s-themed vegan diner that is regularly voted for serving up some of the best totally plant-based burgers in the city. Even if you’re not exactly feeling like a burger, you can enjoy other delicious bites from the restaurant’s bursting menu, from laksa to ice cream sundaes. They have recently started serving the most delicious cakes too, so dust off your sweet tooth.

Big Dill
Brought to you by the creators of Hong kong’s first vegan block party, Big Dill’s vegan-only menu serves up meat, egg and dairy-free versions of popular comfort foods – juicy burgers, fries, hot dogs, gyros, mac ‘n’ cheese, you name it. What we love the most? They make everything in-house, from their patties to their mayo- totes delicious.

Mayse Artisan Bakery
Run by father and daughter duo, Mayse Artisan Bakery uses traditional Latvian recipes to create some of the tastiest vegan sourdough breads in Hong Kong. Customers can choose to grab one of their freshly baked loaves, or dine-in and enjoy their delicious sourdough pizzas – topped with plant-based meat, veggies and melted vegan cheese.

Confusion Plant-Based Kitchen
Confusion Plant-Based Kitchen is 100% plant-based restaurants offering globally-inspired dishes, from Japanese to Middle Eastern and lots of comfort food too. There is something for everyone at Confusion, from its rotating daily specials to its staple veggie-filled wraps, burgers, and rice and noodle dishes and the Sheung Wan eatery has boatloads of devoted followers- for good reason, everything is scrumptious.

Rawsoever
A local café on Lamma Island, Rawsoever is a pet-friendly raw vegan restaurant turning simple ingredients into delicious healthy fusion dishes, such as Chinese vegetables massaged with sweet-sour vinegar topped with fresh fruit, zucchini sesame noodles and raw pizzas and burgers. Tip: check opening times before you go!

Hemingway’s
A favourite on Discovery Bay, Hemingway’s menu boasts an impressive selection of vegan-only dishes, many of which are made with plant-based meat alternatives such as Beyond Meat and Omnipork. On top of appetisers, platters, burgers, buddha bowls, salads, sandwiches and pizza, Hemingway’s also serves vegan cake. Totally worth the trek- enjoy a wide array of great food while you stare at the South China Sea- paradise!

Kind Kitchen
Kind Kitchen is Green Monday’s all-vegan dine-in restaurant concept, serving veganised Cantonese dishes such as cha chaan teng noodles with its now famous Omnipork Luncheon “spam”, Hong Kong-style french toast and milk tea made with oat milk. It also offers a range of international fare, including pizzas, pastas and burgers but also Asian classics like ramen and Singapore fried noodles. It’s the city’s most wide-ranging showcase of the top innovative foodtech companies from Beyond Meat to Heura to Unlimeat to Alpha Foods, and unsurprisingly, meat eaters love the place.

Loving Hut
Loving Hut is an international vegan chain with each location creating veganised versions of local classics. The Tseuk Luk branch has an eclectic menu with Western comfort foods like burgers, pasta and wraps to Cantonese classics like fried noodles and vegan char siu. The Kowloon Bay outlet is known for its extensive vegan meat menu, as well as noodle soups and vegan cakes- plus they have an entire range of vegan groceries online.

2084 Casa
Sai Kung’s favourite Casa Tapas Bar has rebranded to 2084 recently, and its menu showcases a whole load of entirely vegan goodies. Here, you can expect a wide range of Asian-inspired plant-based tapas, from pan-fried momos to peking oyster mushroom wraps and a spicy mapo tofu to die for. They also have a good range of gluten-free choices on offer, plus vegan beer and wine too! What’s not to love?

Pure Veggie House
For all dim sum lovers, Pure Veggie House is the place to go for vegan yum cha. You’ll find all your dim sum favourites – steamed dumplings, veggie stir fries, pan-fried turnip cake, “meat” baos – all under one roof.

Thai Vegetarian Food
Thai Vegetarian Food is a hidden gem for vegans looking for their Thai fix. Located in Kowloon City, the restaurant offers meat and dairy-free skewers, fried rice, pad thai, spring rolls, rice paper rolls, curries and more.

Vegether
Frequented by herbivore and omnivore students alike, Vegether is a vegan eatery located in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It opens early to cater vegan breakfast for students rushing to their morning lectures, as well as throughout lunch and dinner, where vegan Cantonese dishes such as cha siu fan and dumplings are served.
