World Refugee Day is observed on June 20 each year, representing a day to recognise the situation of refugees all over the world and the acute hardships that they face. There are around 25 million refugees and displaced peoples in the world, battling physical threats to their safety every single day, with or without a pandemic.
But there is no question that the current coronavirus crisis has exacerbated their existing insecurities, and that refugees are now facing disproportionate and unique risks, from lack of access to sanitation to healthcare, government assistance and education.
