Sai Ying Pun gets all the media love these days but the original hipsters know that Sheung Wan is a still a happenin’ hood. There are no shortage of new F&B openings but what many of you may not realize is how many great, budget-conscious healthy lunch options are available. So without further ado, here is our roundup of the five best!
Kale
January 2017 Udpate: Kale has moved to a new location in Causeway Bay.
Lunch Special: Kale offers a HKD 88 takeaway set menu with 10 different options, such as chicken breast with kale salad and avocado. If you dine in, they have a selection of set meals depending on how hungry you are ranging from HKD 88 to HKD 110 that allow you to mix and match a main, slides, chicken breast or sole fillet, and their selection of salads, brown rice and kale, or fries. They are extremely vegan-friendly with an 80% plant-based menu.
Menu Offerings: Sliders, fries, salads, juices, desserts, juices, smoothies/shakes plus kale, wheatgrass and spirulina shots.
Healthy Twist: Almost every menu item involves organic kale and they source organic produce wherever possible.

The Kinnet Cafe (Newish)
September 2017 Update: The Kinnet has now closed down.
Lunch Special: The Kinnet Cafe offers three set-lunch options, all of which include tea or coffee. For HKD 98, you can choose a soup and a tartine; for HKD 140 you can select a soup and a main; and for the very hungry, the HKD 160 option has a soup, two salads, and either the fish/meat/roast of the day. The selection of soups, salads, and mains changes daily so be sure to take a peak at the salad bar on display on their beautiful Mediterranean-tiled counter for lunch inspiration.
Dandy’s Organic Cafe
August 2017 Update: Dandy’s Organic Cafe has now closed down.
Menu Offerings: Salads, sandwiches, burgers, pastas, steak, juices and desserts.
Healthy Twist: Gluten-free brown rice pastas plus paleo-friendly, vegan, and vegetarian dishes and sugar-free desserts. Bonus: Chef Vivi uses lots of certified organic ingredients.

Maya Cafe Takeaway
July 2017 Update: Maya’s Cafe has now closed down.
Lunch Special: Maya Cafe Takeaway offers a set lunch menu, with options that change weekly. Choose one a starter, a main, a dessert- plus coffee or tea. Two courses will set you back HKD 120, three will cost you HKD 150. PS- As the name suggests, this is primarily a takeaway spot- they only have 3 seats so keep that in mind.
Menu Offerings: Starters, soups, dahls, salads, no-bun burgers, mains, juices, superfood smoothies and desserts.
Healthy Twist: Know for its raw fare, Maya Cafe Takeaway is 100% vegetarian and vegan, with many gluten-free options and a focus on organic ingredients.

Zumufi
July 2017 Update: Zumufi has now closed down.
Lunch Special: Zumufi specializes in panini and smoothies. They have three lunch combos available, for HKD 68 you can get a panini and a smoothie, for HKD 78 you get a panini and a fortified smoothie, and for the bargain price of HKD 58, you can enjoy a panini and a “Hot Warmers, ” such as a turmeric latte made with almond milk, tumeric, ginger and honey.
Menu Offerings: Paninis, juices, smoothies, teas and wellness drinks.
Healthy Twist: Vegetarian and vegan options, organic teas, blended superfood drinks- they use organic fruits wherever possible.
