Earlier this year, Green Queen reported on the launch of a new female-focused plant-based membership platform, The Vegan Women’s Leadership Network. Launched by Katrina Fox, an Sydney-based journalist and founder of Vegan Business Media, the network serves as a global ethical, diverse and leadership community for vegan and plant-based women. Now, we showcase some of the amazing female leaders who have joined as members from all walks of life, from the business and finance industry to the nonprofit sector and health world.
Frances Gonzales Of Vegan Wines
Frances Gonzales is the founder of Vegan Wines, the first online plant-based wine importer and distributor in the U.S. that ensures that each and every wine in their collection is made with environmentally-friendly and animal-free ingredients. Specialising in wines made by independent family-owned wineries, Vegan Wines actively visits each vineyard and winery is creating wines using methods that are suitable for vegans. For Gonzales, her mission is to help farmers change their farming for the greater good, and to also make it easier for restaurants to pick wines that are animal-free. Passionate about spreading the vegan movement, she is also the founder and organiser of VegFest Puerto Rico.
Alokparna Sengupta Of The Humane Society India
Alokparna Sengupta is the managing director of the Humane Society International India, a nonprofit animal protection and advocacy organisation in India. Throughout her decade-long career in the sector, Sengupta has been at the forefront of many animal rights milestones, including the prohibition animal testing for cosmetics. She has previously been a part of a number of scientific committees, including the Indian Council of Medical Research and Bureau of Indian Standards. Sengupta is also passionate about human welfare, and hopes to be able to bring all marginalised groups together as a united front to recognise the interconnectedness between animal and human welfare.
Dalal AlGhawas of Big Idea Ventures
Dr. Dalal AlGhawas is the program director at Big Idea Ventures (BIV), a Singapore and New York-based venture capital firm focused on investing in alternative protein startups developing future food solutions. At BIV, AlGhawas helps to design and structure the accelerator program that the firm runs twice a year, and provide technical due diligence for prospective portfolio companies. Dalal previously worked at Brinc to help establish the first food tech accelerator program in Hong Kong. Her goal is to guide companies and entrepreneurs to align inclusion as a part of their company culture.
Tracye McQuirter Author & Activist
Tracye McQuirter is an activist, public health nutritionist and speaker on a mission to raise awareness of the benefits of a vegan lifestyle in the Black community. After being vegan for more than three decades, McQuirter wrote and published By Any Greens Necessary, a book dedicated to make going vegan easy, healthy, affordable and delicious. She will soon be launching a series of free online guides, meal plans and cooking videos as a part of the 10,000 Black Vegan Women movement.
